Assistants

Conversation behaviour

Keep conversations moving. Set how the AI handles interruptions, silence and the end of a call.

These settings live on the assistant's Advanced tab.

#Interruptions

interrupt_min_words1 to 5default 1
How many words the caller must say before the assistant stops talking. 1 stops it at once. Raise it if background noise or "mm-hm" keeps cutting the assistant off.

#Silence

silence_timeout_s5 to 120 secondsdefault 12
How long the caller can stay quiet before the assistant checks in.
idle_messagesup to 5 linesdefault "Are you still there?"
What it says to check in, used in turn.
idle_max1 to 5default 2
How many check-ins before it says goodbye and hangs up.

#Time limit

max_duration_s30 to 3600 secondsdefault 600
Longest a call may run. The assistant wraps up politely when it is reached.
end_call_messagetext
What it says when a time or silence limit ends the call.

#Ending the call

With the End call tool on, the assistant hangs up once the conversation is clearly finished. You can also list end_call_phrases, such as "Goodbye, have a great day", and it hangs up right after saying one.

#Background sound

backgroundoff | officedefault off
Plays quiet office ambience behind the voice, which some callers find more natural.

How each call ended is recorded as its end reason. See Outcomes and end reasons.
