Troubleshoot SIP
Get the line working. Fix registration failures, dropped calls and one-way audio.
#Firewall
Allow your PBX to reach the SIP server on these ports, and allow the replies back:
| Traffic | Protocol | Ports |
|---|---|---|
| SIP signalling | UDP and TCP | 5060 |
| SIP over TLS | TCP | 5061 |
| Audio (RTP) | UDP | 10000 to 10999 |
#The trunk won't register
- Copy the username and password again. Passwords are shown once, so generate a new one if in doubt, then update your PBX.
- Check that the SIP server and port match the trunk page exactly.
- Check that outbound UDP 5060 isn't blocked. Try TCP if your network mangles UDP.
- Repeated failed attempts from one address are blocked for a while. Wait before retrying after several bad passwords.
#Calls to 7777 fail
- Check the outbound route sends
7777down the BluePenguin trunk and doesn't strip or add digits. - For IP trunks, check that the PBX's public IP is in the trunk's list.
- Check that your plan has minutes left and the AI is switched on under Call handling.
#One-way or no audio
- Allow UDP 10000 to 10999 in both directions.
- Turn off SIP ALG on your router. It rewrites SIP packets and often breaks audio.
- Make sure G.711 μ-law or A-law is enabled on the trunk.
#Transfers don't reach the extension
- The transfer target's destination must be the extension number as your PBX dials it.
- Check that calls arriving from the trunk may reach internal extensions (the inbound context).
