Answer a phone number

Put your AI on a phone line. Call it yourself before customers do.

You need an assistant you have already tried with a test call. If you don't have one yet, start with the dashboard quickstart.

#Option 1: get a new number

  1. #Search for a number

Open Phone numbers, choose Get a number and search by area code.

  2. #Pick the assistant

Choose which assistant answers it. You can change this later.

  3. #Call it

Call the number from your mobile. The call appears under Call logs as soon as it ends, with a recording, transcript and summary.

#Option 2: keep your number and forward it

Get a BluePenguin number as above, then set your current line to forward to it. Most carriers and desk phones support two kinds of forwarding:

ForwardingEffect
AlwaysEvery call goes straight to the AI.
When busy or unansweredYour phones ring first and the AI answers the calls you miss.

Your carrier's website or support line has the codes or settings for your line. Most carriers pass the original caller's number through, so the assistant still recognises returning customers. More detail is in Keep your number.

#Option 3: connect your phone system

If you run 3CX, FreePBX, Asterisk, Yeastar, Avaya IP Office, Cisco or another SIP PBX, create a SIP trunk to BluePenguin. Your numbers stay with your current provider, and the AI can transfer back to any extension. Start at Connect your PBX.

Note
A number is answered by one assistant. To run sales and support on separate lines, give each its own number and assistant.
